is a flexible and parsimonious user-friendly approach supporting Water Supply Systems (WSS) monthly mass balance considering climate variability, infrastructures and multiple allocation options.
The user can easily build, within a QGIS project, a water supply scheme selecting water resources among surface inflows from
watershed, surface reservoirs
, wells
, springs
and Alternative Water Sources (AWS)
(e.g. desalinisation
plant) and connecting
them to one or more macro-USER
that can be prioritized. Management nodes
allow to connect a macro-user to more than one resources, proposing different pre-implemented management options. Each element is fed by simple excel files following given templates.
proposes built-in simple robust approaches for the time series reconstruction of water resources availability and users’ needs,
but time series resulting from external modelling can be supplied as an optional for each element.
Once implemented the WSS (if ready with the files prepared and the scheme in mind, it may take few hours to few minutes), provides hindcast
simulation (reproducing the past decades) for evaluation and “what if” management scenarios, stochastic
simulation
for robust drought index estimation and early warning
decision support and climate scenarios
simulation for
impact and adaptation studies, together with build-in plotting
and export
tools.
As it is easy to implement, flexible and data parsimonious, ideally supports common management and adaptation solutions and WSS inter-comparison within a transparent shared data and modelling approach.
As it is open,
may grow up and adapt toward your needs, filling the voids, like water.
